After a solid night’s sleep (and successfully NOT setting off the fire alarm), we followed our now-normal routine of a great breakfast followed by immediately jumping in the car to head off to the next adventure. Today’s agenda? The Cliffs of Moher!

The Cliffs of Moher

The weather had taken a nasty turn. The wind was blustery and it was raining. Not one to let that stand in our way, we arrived at the Cliffs of Moher, donned our rain gear, and headed out for a walk along the cliffs. My one goal was to see a puffin, those adorable little creatures, and unfortunately, I was met with disappointment. Not one! Either way, it was still a beautiful walk.

The seas were swelling below us, crashing with the sound of thunder, spray rising up the clifftops to mix with the rain and fall back down onto us—pure magic. Unlike some of the others who had climbed the fence to sit on the edge, we walked within the fence line. Having done our research, we were well aware that the fast-changing winds are more than capable of whisking someone over the edge and down to the seas below. We were more than satisfied with our views from behind the fence line, thank you very much! Later on down the path, the cliffside is open to anyone who wants to waltz over and take a peek. Not us! We stayed on the path except for one picture where Billy is closer to the edge. I took that picture as fast as possible!

In all, it was well worth the visit. It was the biggest tourist attraction we’d been to, and despite poor weather conditions, it was still crawling with people. Some might call the Cliffs of Moher a tourist trap, but we thought it well worth the visit. The views are incredible and raw. We recommend going in the off-season if you can. We went before the high season started AND the weather was miserable. It was still pretty packed. I can’t imagine the crowds on a gorgeous summer day!

Our Time At The Cliffs Of Moher

Doolin

Our little pod at Nagles after visiting the Cliffs of Moher.

Doolin was going to be home for the next few nights. We were slated to camp and had booked a tent pitch at Nagles Camping and Caravan Park. The weather was still nasty and the temperature that night was set to be pretty low. When we arrived, we noticed they had a few pods, and so we decided to ask and see if any of them were available. It turns out they were brand new! The owner’s daughters had stayed in one the night before, but we were the first actual customers to stay, so that was pretty cool.

We love these little pods. They are just enough of what you need; a place out of the weather, a warm bed, and a radiator. From their current website, it looks like they’ve added a bathroom to the pods! When we stayed, we had to go to the shower block for a toilet. Great upgrade!

The great thing about Nagles is its location. You get a great view of the cliffs, and you are just a stone’s throw away from the pier where you can catch a ferry to the Aran Islands, which is just what we had planned for the following day. We spent some time wandering through the tiny town of Doolin and doing a little shopping before heading back to our hideaway. Excited about the following day and excited about being warm and dry, we spent a relaxing evening in our cozy pod.
Cheers,
Lydia and Billy
